I finally quelled my curiosity and tried Blue Apron. Here is what it looked like...

I have been curious about Blue Apron for years. Being so passionate about cooking and food, I had some serious questions for meal delivery services; so I never jumped the gun and actually ordered a box. Simple (but serious) questions like, is the food even good? or fresh? or healthy? And then, if I'm ordering from Blue Apron it's probably because my life is crazy busy and I don't want to worry about meal planning or grocery shopping for dinner a few times a week. So, then comes my next question, are the meals really that easy to make?

Well, you guys, last weekend I finally tried Blue Apron and I got some answers.

Blue Apron graciously sent me a box to try and share my experience with you guys!

Let's start with my first question, is the food even good? Yes. The food is absolutely good. I will admit, the meals felt a bit "fancier" than what I typically make since I'm all about meals in a bowl, one-skillet meals or tacos. But yes, the food was delicious. My husband was quite impressed, as well and may have even appreciate the change (although he would never say so).

If you are not a carnivore, FEAR NOT, they have an option for vegetarians!

Second question, is the food fresh? Yes. the food was very fresh. Was it like picking vegetables from your own garden? No. But it was the same quality as the grocery store...minus the grocery store. The meats were all kept frozen, too.

So, were the meals healthy? Well this depends on what you define as healthy. However, I feel that they were more on the healthy side, than unhealthy side. The Seared Salmon & Lemon Labneh appeared to be the most healthy with freekeh as the grain (so SUPER healthy) and kale as the veggie. Each meal had a meat, veggie and starch and none of them had any wild creamy heavy sauces. So, with that said, I will let you decide if you think they are healthy. The best part, in my opinion, is the portion size limitation, which is where I struggle the most ;)

Finally, were these meals easy to make? Yes, I found them very easy to make and I think you would, too. Especially thanks to the step-by-step instructions with photos.

So wrapping up, here are some things I love love loved about Blue Apron and a couple things not so much.

Things I loved: The printed recipe sheets. These are awesome! I can take notes with ingredient adjustments or additions and save them for later use. I also learned how to cook "Chicken Under a Brick" which is awesome. The portion sizes were spot on. And freekeh...

Things I didn't love: Two meals had Yukon potatoes. I am not a huge fan of white potatoes unless prepared a certain way and mixed in some kind of Buddha bowl. But, you guys, unless I'm hiring a personal chef to do it all just how I want FOR ME, I'm gonna win some, and I'm gonna lose some. Also, given how much packaging it takes, please recycle.

Final thoughts...

I highly recommend Blue Apron to anyone looking for easy, delicious, well-rounded meals that the whole family will love (yes, even Octavian loved the salmon and chicken). Single parents, working parents, just-married, empty-nesters, grocery-shopping-haters, or those of you out there who have no idea how to cook.

Oh Hay! I even had my husband record me opening my Blue Apron box. I was too chicken to go LIVE. Maybe next time...

Octavian was at his Nana's, otherwise this video would have been at least 3 times longer. You're welcome :)

And the makeup on my face? Leftovers from the day before and was the first time I put makeup on since last August. I'll save the story of getting the makeup on my face for another day...
