We're already a whole 8 days into September. Even though Autumn doesn't begin until September 23rd, it already feels like summer has ended. I must be a little crazy since 100+ degree temperatures are forecasted for the entire week, but I can feel the summer vibes slipping away. Usually I welcome cooler weather, but I have loved everything about summer this year.
I'm going to guess this comes with having a toddler. Playing outdoors has been essential to survival around here since hanging around the house for more than an hour at any one time makes a certain someone start to climb the walls (almost literally). Which reminds me- anyone have any favorite toddler rainboot brands? We're going to need them!
And summer food! At the very beginning of summer we finally bought a grill. You guys, this thing has changed my life. Thanks to this awesome piece of steel, we have feasted on salads and wraps nearly all summer long. Eating loads of vegetables has never been so easy or tasted so good. And summer fruit. Oh the cantaloupe, what will I do without it?! We will still bbq once Autumn arrives, but who are we kidding? Grilled chicken and zucchini wraps just won't be the same when you're grilling in the cold and in the dark. And, our traditional never-ending pots of soup just doesn't seem very appealing with a toddler who is still learning how to use a spoon.
And I'm not even going to get into my sad sad fall and winter wardrobe. You guys, it's bad. Some unintentional weight loss has left me with nothing that fits. While I always love a good excuse to buy a few new things, I am not looking forward to buying an entirely new wardrobe.
But, Autumn won't be all bad. I'll have new inspiration to challenge myself in the kitchen, pumpkin will be back on the shelves at Trader Joe's, crisp morning walks to the park with friends, and my crazy toddler will be turning 2! Until then, we will be soaking up as much of summer as possible.
