11 Month Update

My sweet baby boy is 11 months old today.  I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I am only one month away from having a one year old.  I'm not ready to say farewell to my little baby boy.  In many ways, and on many days, I feel like he just got here.

While every day isn't perfect, I look forward to each and every day I have with him.  Being his mom is such a precious gift.

Stats:  I'm not certain.  He hasn't been weighed or measured in a month, but my guess would be a little over 22 pounds and at least 30-31 inches.

Sleep:  For the most part, he's been sleeping well.  We did go through wonder week leap 7 in the middle of the month which threw us all off for a couple weeks.  Whenever Octavian goes through these crazy weeks, his naps get shorter and he frequently wakes up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep- often, for hours.  Wonder Week aside, he sleeps from around 8pm to 7am and takes two 90 minute naps during the day (lots of give or take in these times).  I'm still nursing him 1-2 times each night.  I don't mind the night feeds as long as he falls back to sleep right away (which is only about half the time).

Eating:  Octavian nurses 4-5 times in 24 hours and eats solids 3 times each day.  He is also offered a sippy cup with expressed breast milk at all times of the day except for an hour before naptime (when he nurses). Some days he loves solids, and other days he couldn't care less.  He loves cheese and chicken!  I'm still pumping at least 3 times a day, 20-25 minutes each time.  When he only nurses once in the middle of the night, I often pump for relief when we wake up.  I keep telling myself i'll lay off pumping when he turns one, but I highly doubt it.

New Skills:  He patrols the perimeter of our sectional looking for off-limit "toys" to play with and is moving so fast!  He can step backwards down a single step, place cups on top of each other, answer the phone and pass it off to me, say "hi" and wave (speaking of waving, he waves at everything!), and understands what the word "gentle" or "pat pat" means when he is touching animals or my hair.  He has also started to play peek-a-boo himself with a blanket.

Likes:  Octavian loves anything outdoors.  He is happiest when he is outside.  I think he knows what the word "walk" means because he'll start to crawl over to the front door.  He still loves peek-a-boo, sucking on tags, mr.bear, books, his reflection, and all of his toys that play music (especially his drum and remote).  He loves the vacuum (weirdo).  He loves bathtime with Daddy.  He loves to destroy any sort of order, for example, a tower of stacked cups, items in a box or books on a shelf.  cats and dogs are still his absolute favorite!

Dislikes:  He hates having his diaper/clothing changed.  I miss the days where he would just lay there and smile.  He hates being bored or feeling tired.  He hates the blender.  He's not much of a cuddler, in fact, he hates to sit still.  However, we did learn that he loves Sesame Street, and I can get him to cuddle with me for about 5 minutes if I put it on- too bad for us this is only on very rare and special occasions (when the clinging is out of control and I can't hold him anymore).

Month Highlights:  He finished cutting four top teeth and moved into his big boy carseat.  We took lots of walks/jogs together.  Whenever we leave the house, people ohh and ahh over his big blue eyes and smile. I may be biased, but I don't blame them.
