Octavian LOVES books. They are his absolute favorite. I remember when he was around 6 months old he figured out how to hold, open and manipulate the pages of his board books. I will never forget the look on his face when he opened his Animals (touch and feel) book for the first time. His whole world changed and his mind opened. It was a picture of a cat and dog- his favorites. A great big smile lit up his face, he looked at me, laughed, and open-mouth kissed the orange cat. It was one of those sweet moments in motherhood that just make being a mom the best.
Since he was born I've learned a thing or two about buying books for babies:
- Board books are a must, unless you don't mind having your 6 month old viciously rip out all the pages and eat them.
- Touch a feel books - it took Octavian a while to notice the touch and feel part, but now, he'll sit for longer than 2.5 second (a miracle) and pick, touch, or try to eat the fur or velvet material on the page.
- You can never have too many books. There have been a couple instances where I bought him new books thinking he would be so excited when I gave them to him. If excitement equals throwing it on the floor and crawling away, well, then I did a pretty good job. But then, on some random day, that book he once hated is now his new favorite. There is only one book that he has always shown interest in since day one Oh, The Thinks You Can Think!
What are you're must-have books for babies and toddlers?
